Jakarta, INTI - The global AI chip market is growing at a rapid pace, valued at USD 53.5 billion in 2023 and projected to reach USD 67 billion by 2024. This growth creates vast opportunities for companies like AMD, a prominent player in the AI chip sector. In May 2024, AMD celebrated its 55th anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to leading the tech industry amidst the advancing AI era.

Under the leadership of Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, AMD has seen extraordinary growth over the past few years. The company has made significant expansions, particularly in its AI-driven PC portfolio for desktops and mobile devices, aimed at enhancing productivity and connectivity experiences for business clients. Thanks to this innovative approach, AMD's stock value has surged in recent months.

In a blog post, AMD's CTO Mark Papermaster emphasized that the company is prepared to meet the rising demand for computing capacity with its cutting-edge product roadmap. “AI is the most exciting and significant technological disruption of a generation, and AMD is in the best position to meet customers’ demands with our leading products and roadmap,” he said. Papermaster underscored that AI not only offers strategic opportunities for AMD but will also shape the future of the technology industry.

AMD’s Transformation and Boundless Innovation Over the past five years, AMD has undergone a dramatic transformation, achieving rapid growth across various sectors. The company has doubled its engineering workforce to more than 15,000 employees, ready to deliver advanced chips, software, and AI solutions across industries. AMD’s acquisition of semiconductor company Xilinx in 2022, along with other acquisitions like Pensando, Mipsology, and Nod.ai, has strengthened its capabilities in networking and AI software.

AMD has nearly quadrupled its R&D budget since 2019, reaching USD 5.9 billion in 2023, reflecting its dedication to developing globally competitive technology. Today, AMD technology powers 30% of the world’s servers and supports 140 of the Top 500 supercomputers, including eight of the top ten most energy-efficient supercomputers.

A Holistic Approach for the AI Era Mark Papermaster explained that AMD will adopt a holistic approach to tackling the AI era. “We don’t believe the next five years of advancement will be realized by any single company or product alone. The future of technology will emerge from open ecosystems and deep industry partnerships,” he said.

AMD is focusing on a modular IP portfolio integrated within a unified AI software stack, which will make it easier for developers and users to deploy its solutions. Through this approach, AMD aims to maintain high performance and efficiency across all its product lines.

Amid this unprecedented turning point, AMD, at 55 years strong, continues to collaborate with engineers, customers, and industry partners to usher in a new era of adaptive, high-performance computing.
