Jakarta, INTI – Indonesia has once again demonstrated its commitment to tackling the global climate change challenge by supporting 34 energy transition projects that will be part of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC). These projects were one of the main focuses during the 2nd AZEC Ministerial Meeting held in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, where the Asia Zero Emission Center was also officially established.

Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, in a doorstop session after the meeting, explained that Indonesia has the largest project list among AZEC member countries. Out of 78 projects that will receive funding from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), 34 come from Indonesia. These projects are expected to accelerate the energy transition in the Asian region, focusing on the development of renewable energy and sustainability.

"These projects are initiatives led by Indonesia and Japan to expedite the energy transition in Asia. We are encouraging this transition to proceed smoothly while ensuring economic and environmental sustainability," said Minister Airlangga.

The establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center is also a strategic step to support these energy transition projects. This institution will play a vital role in assisting AZEC member countries in designing and implementing sustainable energy transition policies and projects.

Moreover, Minister Airlangga highlighted that this meeting serves as an important forum for Asian countries to share experiences and develop joint strategies in addressing the climate change challenge. Indonesia, as one of the countries with the largest energy transition projects, is committed to continuing to drive innovation and collaboration in achieving zero-emission targets.

The meeting was also attended by Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, Ken Saito, who expressed Japan's full support for energy transition projects in Asia. According to him, the collaboration between Indonesia and Japan serves as a model that other countries can emulate in pursuing sustainability in the future.

Minister Airlangga further added that the Asia Zero Emission Center will be a knowledge and innovation hub that will significantly contribute to realizing the zero-emission vision in the Asian region. With support from stakeholders, this institution will be a key driver in implementing energy transition projects across various sectors.

The establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Center and support for energy transition projects underscores Indonesia's strong commitment to addressing the climate crisis. Minister Airlangga emphasized the importance of international cooperation in achieving a sustainable and climate-resilient future.
