Jakarta, INTI - The evolution of wireless technology is accelerating rapidly, with AI-powered technology now applied to 5G networks. Recently, SK Telecom (SKT) and Samsung Electronics successfully developed the AI-RAN Parameter Recommender technology, which aims to optimize 5G base station quality across their commercial network. This AI technology fine-tunes network parameters in various operational environments, enhancing both user experience and operational efficiency for service providers.
Throughout the development process, the two companies used historical network data to build an advanced AI model that analyzes and learns network operational patterns, then recommends optimal parameters for specific conditions. By leveraging deep learning, this AI system can detect correlations between network data and operational parameters to create solutions that maximize network performance.
Breakthrough in Network Resource Efficiency with AI
Samsung Electronics designed an AI model known as the ‘Network Parameter Optimization AI Model’ to improve the resource allocation in network management. This model enables operators to manage networks more effectively by organizing them into cluster units and increasing response speed in high-traffic areas, such as public transportation hubs, where traffic patterns shift constantly.
The collaboration between SKT and Samsung Electronics has enabled successful testing within commercial networks, showing promising results. According to collected data, applying this technology can increase network capacity by up to 25% in high-traffic areas like urban centers and reduce delays by approximately 15% in residential areas. These findings suggest that AI-based technology could be essential for sustaining network stability and performance.
Commitment to an AI-Based Network Future
Ryu Tak-ki, Head of Infrastructure Technology at SKT, noted that this milestone highlights the potential to maximize each 5G base station's performance with AI. “With the help of AI, we can manage networks more efficiently, especially in areas with high service demand,” Ryu stated. SKT hopes that this technology will lay the foundation for AI-based networks that provide unique and differentiated user experiences.
Similarly, Choi Sung-hyun, Head of Advanced Development Team at Samsung Electronics, reaffirmed Samsung's commitment to developing AI-driven technology for next-generation networks. “Samsung will continue to lead in creating smart and automated technology for the AI-based network future,” he remarked.
Benefits of AI-Based Networks for the Telecommunications Industry and Users
Adopting AI in network management is expected to help the telecommunications industry worldwide, including in Indonesia, overcome 5G network challenges more effectively. This technology not only improves service quality but also provides economic benefits, such as a 20% reduction in operational costs and improved customer satisfaction.
AI technology in 5G networks, such as that developed by SKT and Samsung, can be implemented to improve accessibility and network quality in high-population areas. This is particularly relevant for Indonesia, where demand for high-quality internet services continues to grow. By utilizing AI in network optimization, telecommunications operators are expected to better meet user needs efficiently and consistently.
Looking ahead, collaborations like this open up significant opportunities for developing smarter and more sustainable network technology. The steps taken by SKT and Samsung Electronics show that with AI integration, 5G networks can become more robust, resilient, and ready to tackle the challenges of future networks.
