Jakarta, INTI – Indonesia is once again hosting a major event in the field of artificial intelligence, the 4th Artificial Intelligence Innovation Summit (AIIS), which will be held at Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran. The event, titled "AI Talent: How to Develop AI Talent," is organized by Korika and cTIs, with the main goal of discussing how to develop AI talent in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region.
In the main session, scheduled for August 13, 2024, from 14:30 to 15:15 WIB, various leading experts will share their insights. The speakers in this session include Dr. Hary Budiarto from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Seng Meng Koo from AI Singapore, Prof. Setia Pramana from the Ministry of Research and Technology and National Research Agency, Prof. Ir. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan, M.Sc., Ph.D. from APTIKOM, and Panji Wasmana from Microsoft Indonesia.
The session will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Bambang Riyanto from KORIKA, who will guide the discussion on the challenges and opportunities in developing AI talent in Asia. The speakers will cover various important topics, including how governments and industries can work together to create a supportive AI ecosystem and strategies for attracting and developing local talent in AI.
The event is sponsored by several leading companies such as Lintasarta and Ajari, the conference will offer the latest data and statistics from reliable sources showcasing the development and potential of AI in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region.
According to IDC, AI spending in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to reach $20 billion by 2025, marking a significant increase from previous years. Indonesia, with its vast human resources potential, is expected to play a crucial role in the AI development in the region. However, the main challenge lies in ensuring that local talent possesses the necessary skills to contribute effectively to the evolving AI ecosystem.
Dr. Hary Budiarto, in his preparation for the event, stated that Indonesia has a lot of potential in the field of AI. "It is important for us to create comprehensive and sustainable training programs to develop local talent. Collaboration between the government, academia, and industry is essential to achieve this goal," he said.
Seng Meng Koo from AI Singapore added that cross-country collaboration and knowledge sharing are key to accelerating AI talent development. "We need to create a solid network across the Asia-Pacific where experts can share their knowledge and experiences," he said.
On the other hand, Prof. Setia Pramana emphasized the importance of research and development (R&D) in AI. "To develop AI talent, we must encourage more investment in R&D and provide platforms for researchers to develop new innovations," he explained.
Panji Wasmana from Microsoft Indonesia also shared his views on how corporate technology can support AI talent development. "Microsoft is committed to providing the tools and resources needed by developers and AI professionals in Indonesia. We believe that by giving access to cutting-edge technology, we can help accelerate the growth of the AI ecosystem here," he said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ir. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan, M.Sc., Ph.D., from APTIKOM stated that education is the key to developing AI talent. "We need to update our educational curriculum to include more material on AI and data science. This will ensure that our graduates are ready to enter a job market that increasingly demands skills in these fields," he said.
