Jakarta, INTI – The landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is rapidly evolving. At the same time, promoting and protecting human rights and environmental sustainability has become a global concern with the emergence of instruments regarding the ethics of utilizing these latest technologies.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria stated that governance with the Policy, Platform, and People (3P) approach is needed to ensure ethical and responsible AI implementation.

"Policy emphasizes the importance of incorporating elements of security, fairness, and inclusivity. Platform highlights the need to create an inclusive AI ecosystem through inter-platform collaboration. Meanwhile, People focuses on empowering community capacity building," he explained during his Keynote Speech at the Indonesia AI Conference 2024 in South Jakarta, Wednesday (07/10/2024).

The Importance of AI Regulations

Although Indonesia does not yet have specific regulations regarding AI, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria explained the importance of implementing general and cross-sectoral regulations to ensure legal certainty.

"For instance, Law No. 11 of 2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions and its amendments, Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection, and Circulars on AI Ethics. There are also regulations that only apply to certain industrial sectors," he said.

Cloud Computing and AI

From the platform side, the presence of cloud computing is one of the sectors for applying AI technology for digital strategy.

"AI is crucial in cloud computing. Cloud technology with AI, IoT, and analytics is essential and forms the foundation for digital strategy," said the Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics.

According to Nezar Patria, the use of generative AI in cloud computing can accelerate research, foster creativity, and enhance customer service. It can even increase productivity and efficiency in data analysis and predict future outcomes.

"In the healthcare sector, cloud technology integrated with AI has revolutionized diagnostics, ensured data security, accelerated research, and expanded telemedicine capabilities. In finance, AI enhances fraud detection, better risk management, and personalized services, leading to greater accuracy and customer satisfaction," he explained.

National Digital Transformation

Therefore, the Deputy Minister emphasized accelerating the national digital transformation agenda with the principles of infrastructure transfer and knowledge transfer.

"Indonesia believes that AI governance should be based on this, enabling Indonesia and other developing countries to actively participate in the global AI supply chain, not just as users," he stressed.

Nezar Patria appreciated the implementation of the Indonesia AI Conference 2024: "Infinite Possibilities, One Cloud – Unveil the Future".

"This event brings together the best thinkers in technology to explore the extraordinary potential of AI, which is highly aligned with the government's goals for digital transformation. Let us all work together to realize this vision," he said.

Presence of Technology Leaders

The event was attended by Vice President of Alibaba Cloud International Sean Yuan and Vice President of Products and Solutions Alibaba Cloud International Dongliang Guo. They discussed various opportunities and challenges in utilizing AI across multiple industrial sectors.

The development of AI technology in Indonesia shows significant potential in various fields, including healthcare and finance. However, to maximize these benefits, ethical and responsible governance is necessary. The implementation of AI with the 3P approach: Policy, Platform, and People, along with accelerating national digital transformation, is expected to make Indonesia an active player in the global AI supply chain.
