Jakarta, INTI - The Indonesian government, through the White and Red Cabinet, is increasingly committed to strengthening digital connectivity infrastructure across the archipelago. To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) of the Republic of Indonesia has made collaboration with global technology companies a priority. Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, highlighted the importance of support from various sectors, including global technology industries, to accelerate the development of the national digital infrastructure.
Minister Meutya Hafid explained that the development of the national digital infrastructure requires collaboration between the government and the private sector. “We need cooperation. And we also need support from various sectors, both industry and other stakeholders. Since we are building large-scale digital infrastructure, the government cannot work alone; we need all parties to work together in building digital infrastructure,” said Meutya while receiving the CEO of Nokia, Peka Laundmark, at the Komdigi Office, Central Jakarta, on Monday, November 11, 2024.
This partnership is expected to expedite the digital infrastructure development process in Indonesia and ensure that all citizens can benefit from faster, broader, and more secure digital connectivity. On this occasion, Meutya Hafid also emphasized the importance of digital security in this collaboration. She stated that each partner involved is expected to have a strong commitment to digital security.
Strengthening Digital Security Through Global Collaboration
Digital security has become a top priority in developing Indonesia’s digital infrastructure. Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized that the government aims to ensure digital security from the construction of the infrastructure to its use by the public. “Digital security is the government’s primary concern. We want all aspects of digital infrastructure to be protected, from construction to public use,” she stressed.
Nokia, as one of the global partners, is expected to make a significant contribution, especially as the company has been established in the technology industry for a long time and has the capabilities to support strong digital security. “Nokia has been transforming and has a long-standing advantage. We hope that Nokia can add value to both the digital infrastructure and the digital ecosystem in Indonesia,” added Minister Meutya.
Promoting Equal Access to Technology for All
In addition to focusing on security, Minister Meutya emphasized that the government is committed to providing equal access to technology for all citizens. Amidst the rapid advancement of technology, equal access is crucial in achieving digital inclusion in Indonesia.
The government and Nokia also discussed various technologies that can be used to expand digital connectivity, including 5G networks and other broadband technologies. This aligns with the government’s goal to ensure that all regions of Indonesia, from major cities to remote areas, can connect through reliable and secure digital networks.
Involving Various Parties in Digital Infrastructure Development
The meeting between the Ministry of Communication and Digital and Nokia was also attended by other key officials, such as Deputy Minister Nezar Patria, Director General of Resources for Postal and Informatics Devices Ismail, and Special Staff to the Minister, Aida Rezalina Azhar.
