Accelerating Electric Vehicle Ecosystem: Insights from Industry Experts at Hannover Messe 2023

INTI,- Hannover Messe 2023 continues to be a platform for discussions and insights about the latest industry trends and technologies, including the development of electric vehicles (EVs) and their ecosystem. The Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Seminar, held on April 19th, 2023, gathered speakers from various institutions to discuss the current state and future of EVs in Indonesia and Europe.

The seminar was moderated by Emmanuel Lestarto Wanandi, Special Staff of the Minister of Industry, who initiated the discussions by highlighting the importance of electric vehicles in supporting sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions.

The first speaker, Septian Hario Seto, Deputy for Investment and Mining Coordinating Ministry for Maritime & Investment Affairs, discussed the current state of electric vehicles in Indonesia. He stated that the government has set a target to have two million electric vehicles on the road by 2025, which will be supported by a roadmap that includes incentives for electric vehicle development, battery production, and charging infrastructure. He also mentioned that Indonesia is working on the establishment of a domestic electric vehicle industry to support the country's transition to clean energy.

Marius Ochel, Head of Cluster International Association Partnership of The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), presented the development of electric vehicle ecosystems in Europe. He discussed the importance of collaboration between industries, governments, and other stakeholders in supporting the adoption of electric vehicles. He also highlighted the development of charging infrastructure in Europe, which has been significant in recent years.

Hartanto Wibowo, Director of Corporate Planning and Business Development of PT PLN, discussed the establishment of charging stations for EVs in Indonesia. He stated that PT PLN, the state-owned electricity company, is working to establish charging stations across the country to support the growing number of electric vehicles. He also mentioned that PT PLN is exploring new technologies such as fast-charging and wireless charging to improve the convenience and accessibility of EV charging.

Toto Nugroho, President Director of PT Industri Baterai Indonesia (IBC), presented the battery industry roadmap in supporting the electric vehicles industry. He discussed the importance of domestic battery production to reduce the reliance on imported batteries, which can be expensive and impact the local economy. He also mentioned that PT IBC is working to develop new battery technologies to improve the efficiency and reliability of electric vehicles.

The seminar ended with a discussion session, where participants asked questions and provided their perspectives on the development of electric vehicles and their ecosystem. The speakers emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in supporting the growth of electric vehicles and achieving sustainable development.
