Geneva, INTI – Indonesian Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, attended the Ministerial Roundtable at the WSIS+20 Forum 2024, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. The event was held at the Geneva International Conference Center (CICG) and commenced at approximately 1:30 PM local time.
Focus on AI and Digital Development
The Ministerial Roundtable gathered leaders from international organizations and around 35 telecommunications and digital ministers from various countries. The discussions focused on issues such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the progression of digital technology. The forum was chaired by Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the ITU.
“Digital development in Indonesia is aimed at achieving inclusive, empowering, and sustainable connectivity to realize the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045,” stated Minister Budi Arie during the forum.
Inclusive and Human-Centered Digital Development
The Ministerial Roundtable emphasized the importance of inclusive, human-centered, and development-oriented digital growth. Ministers agreed that special attention should be given to the interests of the Global South, considering Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and equitable development for all.
Participants acknowledged the necessity to anticipate emerging issues such as AI, cross-border data flows, talent development and digital literacy, combating disinformation, equitable connectivity, cybersecurity, and other priority concerns.
Indonesia's Digital Transformation Recognized Globally
“Indonesia’s various digital transformation initiatives have been recognized as global benchmarks, evidenced by the numerous awards Indonesia has received at the WSIS ITU forums in recent years,” Minister Budi Arie remarked.
The WSIS+20 Forum 2024 Ministerial Roundtable concluded with an agreement to adhere to principles of inclusivity, safety, and sustainability in the development of the telecommunications and digital sectors.
